London - Pablo Chiereghin at Siteshow exhibition

The Time Wasting Projects will be part of this group exhibition the 26th and 27th September

In the early 19th Century, at the heart of Belgravia, Warwick Square was Thomas Cubitt’s vision for modern high-density living.  Currently, at Number 31, in the spirit of visionary and progressive thought, another transformation is taking place.

On 26th September 2008, builders will begin an ordinary day’s work, excavating the basement, peeling back the layers of history, preparing the site for a new life; but at lunchtime, they will step aside as the site is invaded by more than 30 exciting new artists.  In a variety of media, including installation, photography, film, painting, sculpture and performance, they will transform the house into a veritable hub of creative activity.

The construction process will be ‘frozen’ over the weekend, allowing visitors to experience the meeting of two creative processes – the making of a home and the making of an art exhibition – during Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, in this fascinating transitional space – the antithesis of the ‘white cube’ gallery space.

31 Warwick Square is currently in the process of being returned to its former residential glory by the construction company Strideline Ltd. and it is from within this context that the art exhibition ‘siteshow’ intervenes in providing a snapshot - a freeze frame weekend experience - to provide an arresting range of contemporary art from within its setting.

This is the third art event supported by Strideline Ltd.  The first, in another site in Belgravia, showcased the paintings of Bosnian artist Sanja Sakic; the second, in Hammersmith, was a multi-disciplinary event including painting, sculpture and performance.  The concept for the shows was to challenge and question the nature of gallery exhibitions, whilst creating an affordable and interesting space for artists to explore and work within.
This latest instalment will be curated by Sanja Sakic and John O’Hora.

‘siteshow’ opens at 31 Warwick Square SW1 on Friday 26th September 2008 at 7.30pm and continues on Saturday 27th September from 12 noon until 10pm.
