Vienna - "Privacy Matters" at Anzenberger Gallery
an exhibition by Pablo Chiereghin, Hanna Haböck for European Month of Photography Vienna - 29 October 2010 - 31 Januar 2011
Pablo Chiereghin's new Polaroid series project "Portraits with telephone
numbers", exposes individuals that took the risk of writing their
telephone number on their portrait. The project is linear, simple and as
analogical as low tech. The model voluntarily accepted to disclose a
very private way of contact, giving the spectator the possibility to
call a face that can be anybody. The core of the project is not the
portrait itself, rather the interaction that happens before and after
the portrait. In “Picture of a Lie,” Pablo Chiereghin asks his model to
repeat his or her worst lie in front of the original victim. The goal
is to depict not the person but the lie itself. In his second project,
“Birthday Suit,” people are paid to pose in a London shop window for a
portrait taken by a naked photographer. The eyes of the fully dressed
model reveal the nakedness behind the camera.
In her project
“nach acht / past eight a.m.,” Hanna Haböck portrays people who are
still asleep, resting in undisguised and natural poses, in twelve
different early-morning atmospheres. Arranging the various portraits in a
series effects a transformation of the private. Torn from the protected
and isolated contexts in which they lay, the sleepers suddenly appear
in a public space.
