SEDUCED Show

From 2 November Pablo performs at Seduced Show with his new photographic action "Birtday Suit"

London 12-10-2007

Exhibitions reveals the black art of seduction

A series of provocative artworks exploring the concepts of sex, seduction, bondage and passion will go on display in the heart of London from 12 October 2007 to 27 January 2008. The exhibition, the brainchild of Central Saint Martins College of Art, will appear in the College’s Window Gallery on Charing Cross Road.

Titled The Window Gallery Seduced Show, the exhibition will feature the sometimes provocative work of nineteen contemporary artists who have all been inspired by the notion of seduction. Shows will change on a weekly basis with a new one opening each Friday evening. A dedicated website: www.seduced-twg.com will provide a detailed schedule of performances, as will information boards situated at each window. Shows will run throughout the night, seven days a week.

The Window Gallery Seduced Show operates in partnership with and was inspired by The Barbican’s own blockbuster Seduced: Art and Sex from Antiquity to Now exhibition. Central Saint Martins’ Professor Marina Wallace co-curated the Barbican show.

While both exhibitions explore the representation of sex in art, the Barbican’s show looks at sex through the ages while The Window Gallery looks at sex and seduction today.

Each week the artists who make up The Window Gallery Seduced Show Team will confront topics related to seduction, and express them via their own art form, be that photography, sculpture or performance. Each show has been designed to force viewers to question their own attitudes to pornography and sexually unambiguous imagery.

The first installation to go on display will be the work of Central Saint Martins graduate Hector de Gregorio. Hector’s work is a contemporary and uncompromising expression of his radical view on the look of desire, pain and pleasure.

His work is made up of a series of large printed images titled: Anarco-Flesh, Waxing (for pleasure), Ecstasy and Voyeur. His work is a cocktail of Baroque, iconography and postmodernism styles used to accentuate the drama, importance and general values of the experience of sex.

Other work on view will be the two-phased creation of Pablo Chiereghin, called Birthday Suit. Pablo’s interactive work sees volunteers peering at his naked body while at the same time being immortalised as art. This phase of his work exploits the viewers’ voyeuristic tendencies by photographing the faces as they gaze on his naked body framed behind glass. Phase two of his work will see the images of his peering public displayed as a series of voyeuristic faces.

The Window Gallery Curator John O’Hora says:
“This a highly unique and accessible exhibition that will not only grab people’s attention but really make them think about their own and society’s attitudes towards visual representations of sex.”
