Give your reason for applying to your chosen course (provide details of your particular subject interest, relevant experience or abilities, what you wish to achieve on the course and career aspiration)
Through my studies and my experiences I have always been looking for creativity and self expression. I studied Communication Science in Bologna, Italy, and during my studies I started working as a Copywriter for L&Q, a growing advertising and marketing agency in Bologna. A University exchange programme gave me the opportunity to live and work in Spain. In Madrid I joined D&Co, an advertising and PR agency, where I worked as copywriter and PR officer for the Italian market. Upon my return to Italy, I accepted the position offered to me by L&Q as Senior Copywriter. My duties included creative copywriting, proposing and developing marketing strategies, event organisation, campaign conception by working on clients briefs and production of video and photo shoots. During this three year period I worked for clients as BMW Italia, MINI Italia, Coop, Sigma, Marazzi and other brands. Meanwhile I also collaborated with Zoomworks, a video production agency based in ……
In March 2004 I moved to Trieste to work for ITS, International Talent Support, a 5 day fashion and photography festival sponsored by Diesel and MINI. This served as a great experience because of the international and young crew, great brands, a real interest in young creativity and a huge event to organize. While at ITS I worked closely on the fashion and photography projects (800 per year) that were sent to apply for the contest. A new impulse sparked to find a way to express my own creativity: photography.
Two years ago, although my skills were oriented towards digital photography I bought an old Canon T90 and I attended a FIAF photo course in Trieste that lasted 8 months. In this course I acquired basic skills to operating in the 35mm photography, lighting and composing techniques and developing and printing elements. Since January 2006 I live in Graz, Austria, where I collaborate with Peter Manninger a professional photographer that works in advertising and in the Graz art scene.
Now I want to take a step ahead into the art world, enhance both my creative abilities and my technical skills, approaching photography like a real medium for expressing creativity. During the course I will try to use my communicational fundamentals, that mostly focus on simplicity of the message, with an investigation on what is or could be surprising in everyday life. My aim is to collaborate with magazines, galleries and art institutions, trying to develop and strengthen a personal approach of seeing and shooting. Therefore I strongly believe that a Postgraduate course in professional photography in a prestigious art college like Central St. Martins would be a real occasion to reach my goals.
Referee
Michele Chiereghin has been working for ITS for two years, at present he is still collaborating with us. During his work he successfully repositioned the web site doubling the number of visitors (in the years 2004-2005), he renewed the database systems and helped create and improve the online application system. In additional these duties he collaborated in the production of the graphics for ITS#FIVE and for the website. Since its creation Michele has made important developments in our photo contest project. Through his work he showed a real capability for creating and developing his own ideas into successful projects, answering promptly to any requests. He is keen in problem solving with a natural inclination for creative ideas.
I believe that with his strong inclination in creative self expression and interest in photography combined with his experiences and capabilities in the communications field he could successfully attend the CSM photography postgraduate course.
