Hi, I´m Pablo Chiereghin, I come from Adria

Solo exhibition at Das Weisse Haus, Vienna 02/02/10 - 13/03/10

05-02-2010

Hi, I'm Pablo Chiereghin, I come from Adria

"Hi, I'm Pablo Chiereghin, I come from Adria" – this speech act is programmatically used as title as well as introduction for the exhibition. In his first solo exhibition in Vienna Pablo Chiereghin gives away personal details and presents the ostensible private. The performative nature of the opening sentence shall fascinate the visitor and create an amicable climate – a perlocutionary intention, which faces the common exhibition conventions.

The exhibition`s starting point are two texts combined with a post card and a family picture. Unsolicited talks Pablo Chiereghin about the origin of his name (All the times that I told the story of my name) and his place of origin (All the times that I told the story of my place).

It`s a stream of consciousness of the past, a rendering of repeated interpersonal actions. The spectator gets to know things, which he possibly didn`t intend to know. Thus, the specator gains imaginary advantage over the artist, who acts as counterpart in the conversation. Autobiographic elements – ordinary but singular – show the artist`s perspective to the public rather than reflecting a self portrait approach.

Through a series of works Pablo Chiereghin unfolds and refines his narratives for the audience and thus provides insights into his world, perceptions and ideals. The triptych Man and his Destiny, visualizes the artist`s personal idea of coincidence, which is ironically fractured in the wall charts. In The Worst Portraits of my Girlfriend his girlfriend gives the permission to show the aspect of everyday life in a not quite favourable way. Instructions presents the final statement with the artist’s official will, which has been prepared for this purpose and has been notarized.

The series Picture of a Lie and Birthday Suit show, that Pablo Chiereghin originates from photography and the portrait. In these series the visible is not the portrait as such, but the setting, the attempt to catch something beyond the pictorial space.

Personal findings complete the intimate show: little details and actions found in everyday life, which touch the artist`s philosophy and experience beneath the surface. (Manfred Wiplinger)
